Solani Aqueduct
One of the best engineering creations is the state of Uttarakhand is Solani Aqueduct. Built in 1846, this was an exclusive creation by the British officers on the beautiful Solani River. The river bed of Solani River contains 0.25 millimeters of sand. But it holds a carrying capacity of 80,000cusecs. However, the bed was lowered here by 6 inches in 1956 by removing the clay and fixing the same with concrete blocks. The inspiration of this Solani Aqueduct was from Alcantara Acquaduct in Portugal and it is one of the best tourism places in Roorkee.

Crystal World

Roorkee Cantonment
Roorkee Cantonment is the base of Bengal Sappers or Bengal Engineering Group. How to Reach Roorkee

Roorkee is well connected through Indian railways which connect some of the major towns and cities in the nearby area. Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun is the nearest airport to Roorkee which is well connected with regular flights to New Delhi. Since National Highway 73 and National Highway 58 passes through the heart of Roorkee, the best mode of transport here is by roads controlled by several private and government buses. The rates of these buses are quite cheap and they provide comfortable rides to reach to different parts of the state and neighboring popular places.

Best Time to Visit Roorkee

Continental climate in the most erratic version prevails over Roorkee. Due to its closeness to Himalayas, the winter months are freezing here with cold winds make the temperature worse. However, the summer months are quite good with average temperature moving around 280C. The monsoon season remains from July to October where it sees huge rainfall due to blocking of winds by the Himalayas. It is best to avoid the monsoon months in Roorkee.
